August 17, 2019 - Delicious wine. I'd say it's time to drink up.
December 1, 2018 - This is my last of 6 bottles, the last one I consumed 3 years ago and I rated that one 93. I drank the first few bottles way too soon, scoring them at 90. It's a solid 94 right now, deep and rich, a real classic grenache. I'm enjoying this last bottle with some baby back ribs (grenache is a perfect BBQ wine). Outstanding effort from Herman Story.
January 19, 2018 - fun wine to drink. alcohol shows thru a bit, but a true crowd-pleaser. went down way too fast. definitely in its drink window
January 1, 2018 - Fabulous.
March 18, 2017 - Only getting better.
February 18, 2017 - Had the pleasure of participating in a tasting of 12 Herman Story wines all from magnum. This was hands down my favorite of the line up. The Late Bloomer is pressed whole cluster and spends three years in barrel prior to release. I love the tannins and herbal character that the stems and extra barrel time add to this wine. The grenache fruit is still very present but the additional barrel age and stems add layers of complexity that I really enjoyed. Additionally the labeling on this wine totally rocks and the story behind how the subjects are chosen was hysterical!
February 18, 2017 - Tampa Spring Break (the second); 2/17/2017-2/19/2017 (Various spots (homes, Mis en Place, Capital Grille)): One of my favorites of the tasting and I think the group's favorite based only on the little amount that was left in the magnum at the end of the tasting. Fruit more muted here - instead lots of brambles and an almost herbal quality. Still sweet. Still fun. Can't tell how much of the more muted nature was the year (2011 being cold) versus the style of the Late Bloomer (3 years in oak till it's released). Overall though, a wine to seek out.
December 25, 2016 - Great on day two.
November 26, 2016 - Wonderful fruit
October 14, 2016 - Dark ruby color, smooth texture with touch of oak and minimal tannins. Still showing good fruit but with developing earthiness. I'd probably drink sooner rather than holding for much longer.
