Community Tasting Notes 5

October 1, 2023 - Beautifully aged bargain Barbaresco. The wine has retained its fresh cherry and raspberry nuances, exhibits a touch of tar and leather, all laced with fine grain tannins. No sign of age.

October 7, 2019 - This wine is in great shape right now- comes in with old saddle leather and tobacco. Dried cherry fruit and violets mingle well with the acid. Tannins still distinct. Best two days after opening it.

February 6, 2016 - This is a fine example of Nebbiolo from Barbaresco DOCG, in probably its optimum drinking window.

Nose of leather, violets, dried rose petals, with whiffs of wild cherries and dry earth. Palate of cinnamon leather, cranberry, warm plum, and dry earth. Good persistence and length. Balanced. pretty much everything one is looking for in a Barbaresco, but the wine lacks the juiciness of a fine California nebbiolo such as from Giornata or the soaring aromatics of great Barbaresco, so it doesn't really take off or stir the imagination. But the QPR is good, even at the restaurant price of $60. Went well with both grilled Branzino and Filet Mignon. Seemed to also have a hint of VA. 4+11 +15 + 8 = 88

December 14, 2014 - Looks light ruby, with light brown edges. Quite acidic on the nose with underlying floral aromas (roses), white pepper and cherries. Palate dominated by undergrowth, kirsch and elderberry - finishes with a hint of iron/iodine. Very pleasant after a 2hr decant but definately holds the structure needed for 5-10 years of cellar life, perhaps even more.

June 4, 2014 - little brick color in glass but the nose is beautiful, leather, floral and cherry nose medium weight, mouth is not as good as the nose, little hot, tannins are there but balance, cherry plum, leather with a bit of tannins. Had it with filet and enjoyed it. Drink now and enjoy Piedmont for $18
