March 13, 2021 - The Great Grapes of the World Tasting with Friends (New Jersey, USA): First of six red wines tasted this evening. Double decanted at 10am, tasted, then taken to a friend’s house for the event starting at 6pm. Tasted by the group closer to 8pm. The wine is a translucent medium ruby with a brick edge. Nose is quite fragrant with notable oak influence, even smells a little woody rather than the usual vanilla elements. Also there is cherry, tobacco, chocolate and later on lots of black licorice. Acidity seems still higher than average with some noticeable tannin but its mostly integrated. Slightly lean in body initially, later it is richer and rounder. Flavors include herbs (rosemary and lavender), mixed red fruit and an overall savory character. Finish is a little tart and has more of the black licorice/anise and is only moderately long. Overall a balanced, mature wine that is enjoyable but not likely to improve from this point. Good with pappardelle and mushrooms.

January 9, 2021 - Purchased from a reseller of other people’s cellars in 2014. Decanted at 5pm and tasted from 6:30pm onwards. Labeled as 13.5% ABV. Pristine bottle, lightly translucent, medium to dark garnet crimson with little to no bricking. Youthful looking and tasting. Nose has light florals, anise, cherry, hints of alcohol and herbal notes. Modest tannin, mostly integrated, bright acidity. Flavor profile is very Brunello typical with cherry, licorice and earthy notes. This definitely needs the air in a decanter. At least a couple hours...it seemed best to me around the 3 hour point, was quite closed initially but got more rich and meaty with more air. Medium body but long on the finish...45+ seconds. Delicious with grilled steaks. Well cellared, this seems to have plenty of life left.

p.s. I tasted this 48 hours later just having been recorked and sitting on the counter...it was pleasant to drink but the fruit did not evolve favorably as was the case with the ‘97 Tig.

February 22, 2019 - Brought to dinner up in Napa. WineBid purchase. Opened at restaurant after lots of big Napa cab tastings. This was a wonderful respite from that style of wine. Went well with our Italian affair. Pop and poured tableside. Lots of sediment. Nose of dried earth, sour cherries and red fruits. Wonderful mouth feel with fine tannins and acidity they give it a good back bone, went well with food. In a very good place tonight. Pleased that this 97 was in a good place tonight.

January 24, 2019 - Exceptional, best Brunello I've ever tasted. Bought near release in June, 2002. Patience paid off. Very fruity for a Brunello, decadent with long finish. Threw off lot's of sediment, next one I will decant. Seems to have plenty of life left. Have only 1 1997 left, sadly. Anxious to see how the overall 2010 Brunellos develop in bottle.
