Community Tasting Notes 10

February 13, 2021 - My sense of smell, (although my sense of taste is slightly more returned to normal) per COVID exposure (in the hospital where I work) is back to around 75% of assessment capabilities, per my wife’s 100% sensory abilities, making thus a concomitant exercise.
Gorgeous, intense black cherry opaque color, with earthy, dusty corona encircling a lovely nose of concentrated and tight knit, sleek, sweet Alexander Valley blue-black fruit, reluctant to present, and exhibiting the impression of entering an old wood-resplendent library on a bright winter day, along with the impression of western facing slope sunshine. Wonderful structure but regrettably the emperor’s new clothes at this stage.
The mouthfeel is silky and is reluctant to reveal its component parts, which will hopefully give up its identity with our meal of bison steaks and bok choy.
This wine may be in a dumb stage, but with eructation more of the wine’s implied fruit comes forward, albeit occulta.
Luckily we have a twin to explore at a later date. Hope springs eternal.

April 30, 2017 - muted nose and flavors, would try longer decant next time

April 2, 2017 - Two hour double decant. Opaque to red/purple edge. Light perfume, cherry, cassis, earth. Rich. Dark fruit, balanced and full. Long, lingering finish. Excellent wine. Liked the style, but no "wow" factor. Similar value to be had for less, more value to be had at this price point. So... next morning, the tablespoon of sedimented wine that I poured off into a water glass smelled wonderful! Kirsch and raspberry, deep and fragrant. Consumed too early and without enough air.

November 23, 2016 - Dark Ruby in color. Nose of Mocha/Vanilla with some underlying plum and violet to go along with blue/black fruits. The Mocha/Vanilla aspect was just a touch more than I like, but overall it was very enticing to smell. Definitely a full bodied wine, but not over-the-top or 'plush' by any means. Strikes a pretty good balance with the plum and blue fruit really showcasing on the palate. Oak spice on the finish with somewhat drying tannins giving this a little bit of a bite. Really solid Bordeaux blend. I would venture a guess of another 4-6 years of really drinking well.

November 30, 2015 - Oak-dominant with not enough fruit for balance. Not as good as previous vintages.
