January 26, 2015 - Nose: The first nosing is citrusy and on the juice of freshly squeezed agave - as this is tequila, a very good start! A light and fine agave syrup as well, with some pepper, cardamom, and perhaps even a little fennel. With time, it turns decadent, never losing its graceful refinement. The agave mellows and the sweet notes become richer with the most dream-inducing caramel and an almost coconut-like quality. With a bit of effort, there are also hints of ash, tobacco, and oak. A real gem.

Palate: Perhaps just a touch watery on entry, though the flavors are crisp. Not as sweet as one might have feared from the nose. The sweet coconut is the first to the front, but it quickly yields its space to the oak. Elegant and the oaky bitterness provides structure. Thuja intertwined with creme de menthe. It's really lovely, though I'd be lying if I were to say that I didn't wish that there were more 'there.'

Finish: Clean and crisp. Everything is in step. Delicious and balanced. All the notes are excellent. My only gripe is that the palate could use more heft. Still, a lovely endeavor, and a unique blend of 'younger' extra anejo and older stock. It keeps its youthful citrusy agave roots, but also brings some rich caramel and oak into the mix. Top stuff.
