December 5, 2020 - Short note. Mineral, elegance, restraint, structure. Good wine!

  • Eudemis Likes this wine:

April 4, 2019 - 12.5% alcohol. Very good long dense cork. Light gold colour.
The nose is fresh and aromatic (white flowers), with a whiff of (not unpleasant) sweat-like aromas as well.
The mouth is better (especially after a while in the glass, as it has a sharp feel initially), with gorse in evidence and fine acidity in the finish.
While this is pretty good, it would be hard to say that it is a better wine than the Bordeaux Champ des Treilles that I had recently and which from memory was less than half the price of this Rully.
Not great value for money, and accordingly not a repeat purchase.

April 29, 2018 - Lemon, chalk, mineral. Mid weight palate delivers medium intensity fruits, with intertwined oak spice. Lovely mouthfeel. Finishes a little short.

August 6, 2017 - 12.5% alcohol. Good dense cork. Pale gold colour. The nose is somewhat reserved, but pure and floral nevertheless. The mouth is fresh and appealing, with yellow flower flavours, good balance and a lively finish.
A wine of charm but with limited power; it was completely swamped by our dish of slowly cooked squid with dill sauce.
I see that the current price at my supplier is 23€ (for the 2015); this seems to me rather high. No doubt you are paying for the De Villaine name.
To be tried again in another context (foodwise) before deciding on the repeat purchase status. I am leaning negative at the moment.

Addendum: tried again with pan-fried cod; the wine survived on this occasion. There is nothing really wrong with it, except for the price; it is so completely outclassed by so many other white wines in the same price bracket, or indeed cheaper (sometimes considerably cheaper) that it is kind of embarrassing. Good luck trying to embarrass a Burgundian though!
    Not a repeat purchase.

March 15, 2017 - Pale yellow color. Nose of soft acid w/Melon profile. Flavor of Lemon peel w/soft acid. No marked finish. More of a refreshing Spring, Summer sipper.
