November 26, 2021 - Smells of watermelon candy, cherry cola, and a little barnyard.
On the palate, first cherry then char leather bacon
    Overall hint of blood.

    Best enjoyable with food!

On first opening it was funky but that dissipated over 1-2h.

April 1, 2021 - Always a crapshoot with MI, isn’t it? This wine has excellent vinous pedigree on display by way of the excellent source material character, but it seems like somewhere along the winemaking path shortcuts were taken. This bottle had a nice bouquet - a little funky/poop to start off - but the palate could only muster weak flavor, persistence, and body. Light tannins. I really feel like I’m drinking something in the 10% abv range.
Other tasters here that I respect, both pan and praise this wine which furthers my assumption about a certain degree of carelessness by the winemaker.
    5+10+14+6= 85

March 18, 2021 - There's been a lot of shade thrown on these wines and particularly, towards the wine maker...most of it probably deserved. As for some of the more recent low scores, there must be some bottle variation because I’m not gonna lie, this was a really strong showing. Popped and poured; consumed over two hours. Bruised strawberries, tart brambles, rhubarb, forest floor, and sandalwood. Tannins are well integrated…but still there. Acid is pretty high but perfect for a nice meal of whole, roasted chicken and root vegetables. The wine is otherwise quite balanced and if my bottle is representative, this still has a long life ahead of it and should drink quite well through 2030. My last of the Maison Ilan “Les Chaffots”.

November 10, 2020 - Flawed: tasted like mold, some funk, sour / vinegar, weak and watery, a collection of broken pieces with nowhere to go. I'm neither for or against controversial winemaker Ray Walker, but someone was quite careless, and obviously there were poor manufacturing or cellar conditions. Three bottles in similar condition, so this isn't about a particular bottle. Same with a fourth bottle, this one a 2013 Les Monts Luisants. Avoid.

February 20, 2020 - Medium to pale ruby, medium reduction on the nose followed by some funk. wood, spice and black cherry, bacon and fizzy cherry on the attack followed by red and dark fruit, earth, char, vegetable, undetectable tannins and mild acidity, finished a little funky with earthy, dark fruit trying to emerge - I guess you could drink it, we poured ours down the drain in a "life's too short" moment
