November 21, 2021 - What an absolute beast! Far too young right now and nowhere near its peak but still the wine of the night during an epic Nebbiolo tasting. The resident somm scored it 100! 2000 Bruno Giacosa Rabaja Barbaresco came very close and was stunning out of the gate as were some 78’ Barolos but this just had more depth and the potential is exciting.

August 25, 2021 - Varmish fruit, lots of tannin, but complex and long

March 1, 2021 - Amazed at how approachable it was so young. Had a 1999 Giacosa Barolo a few nights before that was not even close to ready. What a difference.

May 2, 2020 - The 2010 Bartolo was a bit closed off and austere, but the incredible combination of power and elegance of the wine is on full display already. On the nose, ripe dark red fruit, star anise, violets, and spices emerge with some reluctance.

On the palate is where the wine shines today in my opinion. There is an incredibly silky mouthfeel with almost no perception of tannin, which is so rare in young Nebbiolo especially in combination with the power this wine also shows.

The last time I tasted this wine was blind and my initial thought was a very high quality Burgundy, and in tasting it again I think there's some validity to that comparison. There is definitely too much tannin for that to be the case as you taste carefully, but the initial impression is that this can't possibly be a young Barolo.

It's definitely too young to recommend opening a bottle now, but once the aromatics open up, this is going to be the complete package.
