March 26, 2021 - Deep dark ruby/garnet with some bricking towards the rim. Takes about 2 hours to open up aromatically. Deep, dark and powerful, with notes of dark plum, some dark cherries, tar, smoke, some iron, a touch of orange zest, cigar and some leather too. It‘s full-bodied, dense and powerful, with pretty high tannin (that is very good quality but very present), pretty high acidity and excellent overal balance. Long finish with complexity that is building up. A beautiful Marenca that is entering its drinking window but still has about 10 years ahead. Love the combination of richness, balance and austerity here.

October 20, 2020 - In a great place right now and drank alongside a 2010 Pio Cesare, preferred this better. More depth, better integrations of tannins and a nice medium-long finish. Still plenty of life but definitely entering a nice place.

May 31, 2018 - To my way of thinking this is drinking well now and will likely maintain and maybe improve for years to come.

Typical to the varietal and coming from a notable vintage this is powerful stuff. Delightful clarity of color, big fruit and acid to match up front trailed by the ever present tannins of Nebbiolo.

Throwing a bit of sediment which I always appreciate, those averse may want to decant through a screen or whatever method you prefer.

A solid effort, well done, being underscored in these reviews I think.

May 7, 2018 - I think this needs more time. Rich and a bit tannic with flavors of sour cherries, subtle smoke and mineral (iron). If this mellows out and develops some secondary notes I think it will be a winner in 2024.

April 1, 2018 - More modern than an '07 Barolo I drank the same evening. More fruit, nicely balanced, but still very tannic with a mid-length finish. Opened bottle for 3 hours but did not decant.

August 12, 2017 - Surprisingly fruity; almost too fruity. Not really much else going on here. Any terroir or nuances is lost in the fruit assault. **

December 25, 2016 - Modern and surprisingly approachable. Besides the vanilla and chocolate, it was varietally correct and very pleasant. Sour cherry, roses, strawberries, leather, tannins. Looked very dark and extracted in appearance. Has a long life ahead of it. Will please all but staunch traditionalists.

June 15, 2016 - This is a spectacular Barolo that will not disappoint. Wonderful structure, smooth finish, in balance now and will only get better. Cherries, leather...well worth the price of $53 with a 20% off coupon.

March 31, 2015 - Barolo 2010 & 2001 (chez moi): ramatic, dark nose - pronounced & toasted. The taste juicy, modern, no beating around the bush - the tannins bites from this at the endt, here is something to wait for. Good length, and quite approachable. On the third day it has thrown some of the roasted notes, has become brighter and friendlier, less modern in its expression. 92+

    February 13, 2015 - Clear.
Clean. Youthfull. Med intense nose, dark fruits and some tar. Seems a bit simple, but good concentration.
Lots and lots of tannins, somewhat drying. Med+ acidity. A bit hard and bland on the palate.
Medium length on the finish, with lots of drying tannins. Needs heaps of time.
