March 14, 2024 - Drank next to 2012 Voge Vieilles Fontaines. Quite a bit more rustic in comparison with lots of smoky notes on the nose, cured meat, dark fruit. On the palate good fruit and acidity, not totally harmonious and a little angular with somewhat harsh and - towards the end - drying tannins. 90-92

February 9, 2024 - Slightly muddy appearance. Nose similarly lacking definition. Nothing obviously wrong but just unexciting. I have found these Geynales frustratingly inconsistent across several vintages and only hope that recent years show improvement.

February 6, 2024 - Rhone Dinner welcoming Year of the Dragon (Bochinche): White pepper, spice, plum, cassis. Elegant on the palate, drinking nicely with fine tannins but could still age for at least 5 more years.

November 11, 2023 - Intoxicating spicy nose with dark fruits (blackberry and cherry), smoke and leather, subtle graphite and pepper. In the very background I seem to notice a little Brett, which I don't see as a fault here, but rather as fitting and supportive.
On the palate, the wine is quite taut with a medium body, dark fruits, minerality paired with clear black pepper. On the finish, the wine is very demanding with a present acidity and strong, still somewhat scratchy tannins.
The wine was very good with food, where the meaty, somewhat wild nose went wonderfully with the fillet of beef, acidity and tannins were tamed by the strong roasted flavours of the meat.
Later on, the wine became a little tiring to drink on its own, as the astringency and acidity were clearly noticeable.
A very typical, good, still somewhat uncouth Northern Rhone representative. A few more years of ageing should do it good. -

April 8, 2023 - Nose of iron, blood and raw meat with some smoked meat in the background. Still quite a grip with tannins and matching acidiy. Great to drink now, but will easily last another 5-10 years. Very good and true to its origins.
