June 25, 2019 - Wine-ark boys at Felix (Bistro Felix, Ash Street): Oof, rich, dense, leather, liquorice, saovury and spiced, touches of salted caramel, raisins and molasses. Crazy nose. Lusciously sweet, raisins, salted caramel and more raisins, alcohol heat and it's completely over the top but joyous with raisins so pretty much a standard PX.

January 13, 2019 - Nose shows lots of rancio, and a reduced (almost burnt) caramel note. Palate shows sweet, concentrated flavours of liquid raisin, chocolate, and mocha. Sweet and sticky, with a long finish.

April 25, 2015 - A private dinner at a friend's: Immensely concentrated and sweet, but somehow not cloying. Maple syrup, molasses, raisins, floral notes. A solid rather than profound PX but it is well balanced and attractive in its way.

June 10, 2014 - Tasted alongside other PXs and it didn't shine. Spice and prunes. I wrote 'probably good, but meh' (!)

May 24, 2014 - Iberian Tasting: Sultana, spice, caramel and some spirit notes. Considerable viscosity and there is a spike of alcohol that disrupts the palate. It is good but with more balance it could be magical.

October 1, 2013 - (Tapas w Clara and Elaine, Hobart) Amazing - inky brown in glass, with olive rim. Full nose of raisins, dried prunes and savory soy. Palate is congruently viscous and thick, incredibly rich chewy toffee, with yet more raisins and dried prunes. Complex, layered, dark and deep. Paired interestingly with tapas, particularly the dried cod. Ends complex with more spices and amazing length.

February 16, 2013 - Wow. This is a meal in itself. It's so vicous you can almost chew it. Yet, it still manages to be quite light and delicate. It's certainly sweet, but not hugely so. Acid may balance the sweetness, but its in the background. Not sure if it could maintain its interest over an extended period, but at $55 a bottle I may never know.........
