  June 18, 2022 - Decanted 3 hours before drinking. Fifth time I have had this wine. Moderate to heavy sediment. Crimson color with a little bricking. Notes of charcoal, menthol, tobacco and cassis. This was the earthiest and most rustic of the lineup. Part of a small 2003 Bordeaux horizontal with the Calon Segur and Ducru Beaucaillou. Drink by 2027. 92 points.

  June 5, 2022 - A nice mouthful of fruits light tobacco, and smooth, rounded tannins. Score is held back for the absence of fireworks or distinctiveness. Happy to have with our grilled salmon and look forward to returning too.

  May 13, 2022 - Another impeccably-kept bottle from Heritage Auctions. Ruby red color. Opened the bottle and let it breathe for a hour. The nose was very enticing, with lots of cassis, some vanilla, very fresh with not many tertiary or secondary notes. Bright acidity, very good structure, cassis, dark cherries, anise, black licorice, hints of pencil, grippy tannins still, oak and cracked pepper on the medium ending. A very good wine - a great expression of St Julien - and another great 2003 for me.

  May 7, 2022 - 5th of 12, opened an hour, perfect cork and level, nose more advanced than palate which is still funky and muddled though attractive enough and better than bottle last autumn, upside, 10+ years. For now VGI (17)........suggest decanting!

  April 19, 2022 - Wonderful nose on opening which promised much but didn't really deliver for me..still a very powerful St Julien but totally lacking in charm. Lucky I only have one bottle left, I think 2003 is a vintage to forget.
