April 24, 2020 - Thoroughly enjoyed this wine with a group of close wine friends on our first stay at home Zoom tasting and it performed very well. To my palate still on the way toward full maturity Beautiful aromatics, typical black olive tapenade notes of a traditional blend with the dark notes contributed by the mourvedre and the syrah -- I had a delicious bottle of 88 Beau recently and there were certainly some aromatic similarities, but here there was a richer, gamier core of rhone fruits that made this an absolute joy to savor. Will see what night 2 has in store and report back

November 27, 2019 - My last bottle of this drank with braised pork shoulder. Delicious CdP with mature fruit, herbs, earth. Loved it.

November 1, 2019 - GrandCuvee - CDP Dinner (New Ubin Seafood - Chijmes): Restrained aromas, bits of blackberry and grass, and slight meats. Nice acids, but the tannins seem to jar in, and seemingly affecting the flavours, showing muted fruits and somewhat grassy

October 26, 2019 - You know it's a Grenache-dominant, mature wine from the first sniff. Beautiful nose with pipe tobacco, dried scrub brush, dried meat, raspberries, leather, and hints of dark soy. Very nice at the table with grilled steaks, nice cut against rib-eye fattiness. However, the finish is clipped - it really just drops out at the end, which keeps this from "scoring" higher.

This is fully mature and into its decline Bought at auction with assurance that it was bought on release and stored in the temperature controlled storage area of a Central Coast winery. Assuming that is true, unless you've had control of the wine in a reliably cold cellar it's time to drink up!

February 17, 2019 - Monthly Tasting Group: Older CDP's and Northern Rhones (P.S. Steak, Mpls): Small taste. Very spicy, intense garrigue, some heat. Didn't love this, kind of meh. No score

November 22, 2018 - Ripe red and black fruits are nicely balanced by acidity and deep savoriness coming from tapenade, garrigue and faint tobacco. Chewy on the back end. In a great place right now and no rush to drink.

August 4, 2018 - The ripe fruit has become more secondary with cigar notes added to the black raspberry, tannins have smoothed out it continues to drink very well. I will drink my remaining bottle over the next year or two.

April 29, 2018 - Terrific CDP. Big nose of tar, BBQ grill, bacon fat, and blueberry compote. Gained complexity with air. Sweet blueberries in the mouth but not cloying or port-like in the least due to some still-edgy tannins and a strong hit of rosemary. Comes together beautifully. In a great place now so no need to wait. Yum!

February 3, 2018 - Still quite fresh and concentrated, with ripe fruit, vanilla and earth, a silky texture and good acidity. A well balanced, mature CNP that has more life ahead of it.

January 21, 2018 - Excellent full ruby color. Tapenade and tobacco. Medium weight. Chewy, savory herb and a combination of plum and black fruit. Terrific freshness and acidity, not sweet but ripe. A throwback-old style Chateauneuf in great shape at age 14.
