October 16, 2021 - Slow ox for five hours. Classically styled, medium bodied, fully mature and almost Burgundian in style. The wine shows flavors of blackberry, raspberry, smoke, spice and roast meat. This is in a perfect drinking window now where the wine is still reasonably vigorous but it’s inherent complexity is coming through. This is not one for the ages so I would drink in the next five years

September 25, 2021 - Double magnum. Youthful and fresh as could be expected from this format. Textbook mature Chateauneuf-du-Pape.

August 8, 2021 - Drink now. Fade to garnet as tannins move to dust. dark plum liquor medium bodied, medium acid. Not likely to improve with additional aging.

August 2, 2021 - Wow, gained complexity since the last time I had this. Less fruit forward, absolutely captivating. Next (last) bottle by 2026 or so, when I expect it to be in a very nice place.

July 24, 2021 - As my notes suggest, I just love this wine. It’s big, full, sweet, complex, somehow balanced, wild, fun and groovy. Approaching end of peak in 750, I have a few more bottles that I will drink over the next few years. Just a kaleidoscope of southern France goodness. In your face in the best sort of way. (97)

(DOMAINE PEGAU DU PAPE RED) #1; COLOR-dark; NOSE-complex & exciting; cabbage & Brussel sprout covered by huuge vanilla component; dark black licorice; & some wild cassis; TASTE-Wow!! This wine is kicking serious ass; hugely complex; enormous amounts of bacon & leather; blueberry pie till your touching the sky; loaded w/ fresh berries; Vanilla for days; very luscious; huge mouthfeel; massive attack; beautiful firm ripe tannins, but covered w/ so much fruit & complexity; seamless mid-palate; structure; long, long finish; well-rounded; will last for 10+ years, but is approachable now; not cheap, but serious wine; elegance & refinement; tremendous effort; balance & harmony; RP-94; GV-94+
