Community Tasting Notes 5

  • Gargantua Likes this wine:

December 6, 2019 - Well, at least it was enjoyable this time around, and yes--I agree with tasters below--undeniably Gevrey. I still felt as if the oak had yet to step into the background enough, or that the wine had become texturally "silky"; but it had at least done so to the point that I was able to enjoy the wine and focus on elements beyond the oak and ripeness. Felt more dry, lean and wild, which is always good in my book. This bottle felt like it could have benefitted from another year or two? of aging to maybe get to a finer junction.

August 28, 2016 - This is delicious stuff showing a clear Gevrey aromatic profile-- this roasted or toasty edge to the pinot fruit which is not necessarily oak. Lovely and juicy at only 12.5 % alcohol.

  • Gargantua Does not like this wine:

April 5, 2015 - Unfamiliar with the Esmonin wines; bought a couple upon recommendations from a friend. Very surprised by this wine which was, for my palate anyhow, picked too ripe and exposed to too much oak, proffered by Dressner through Chambers St Wines?! Has the world gone mad? Has that telltale nutmeg aroma that dominates domestic pinot noir when überripe fruit interacts with new oak. Yesterday the gods were with me; today...nothing is going right. Blind I'd've bet the farm on Oregon pinot. Sadness.

February 28, 2015 - Wow - this is bourgogne? Quite possibly the best QPR in Burgundy if you can get your hands on it - my shop could only spare 2 bottles.

  • Federsin Likes this wine:

January 17, 2015 - Subtle nose, bright and fresh with good acidity, medium bodied, very good Bourgogne
