April 26, 2018 - 2003 Chateauenuf du Papes (Tom's house in Palo Alto, California): Nose: A-/A Palate: A-
My #2, Group's #1 (60 pts) Tasted blind.
January 14, 2017 - Riesling Rampage 2017: Screwcap. 65% Shiraz, 35% Grenache. Pepper, blackcurrant, raspberry jam and tar. Sweet fruit on the palate, this is still very youthful, with the structure holding up well. Decent length, just not very complex still.
June 13, 2014 - starting to lose steam. faded blackberry and strawberry on the nose.
May 5, 2014 - Consistent with my previous reviews.
November 8, 2010 - Not bad with blueberries, chocolate, prunes and spice. A bit high on the alcohol and concentrated finish.
May 25, 2009 - warm, jammy, plummy, juice bomb... choose your food wisely
January 28, 2009 - Love the varietal. Love the winery. Not their best effort.
December 22, 2008 - Dark purple with a ruby edge...strong nose of dark fruit and earthy notes that had an edge of burnt rubber...not bad, but interesting. Full mouth feel and grip that was a bit more monolithic than I remember...still spicey and firm from beginning to end.
November 15, 2008 - Dark red, quite transparent. The nose initially had quite a bit of oak, but that blew off after an hr or so, to give way to vegetable/eucalyptus, bacon fat, northern cherry and raspberry. Palate had the same vanilla/oak that faded and then showed pepper, spice box, tar, coffee, red berries. Fairly long finish. Somewhat restrained in style, well balanced. Drinking perfectly now.
July 26, 2008 - Uncapped one hour before dinner, chilled in the frig for 20 minutes before serving. Color was a clear dark purple. Explosive nose of dark fruits with a hint of chocolate-vanilla malt. Pure fruits and a clean wine. Lots of blackberry and supporting raspberry from the Grenache. Good balance (not perfect, could use more acidity) with a very smooth attack. Medium weight and persistent finish. Very drinkable.
