March 4, 2019 - Terroir-istes International - France, Burgundy, Auxy, Beaune, Savigny, Corton (Bishopscourt): (Tasted Blind): A light to mid ruby colour. Aromas of earth, roasted meat, ripe red fruit and oak spices. The palate is forward with plenty of summer berries but also quite earthy and with the depth and concentration of a premier cru. With some power, the texture is grippy with a chalky sensation. Some herbal/green edges suggest possible stem inclusion, whilst the tart acid provides tension. The mid-palate lifts the sweet oak spices, sour cherry and rooibos component, and the tannins feel a little chewy, slightly shortening the finish. Overall, there is some complexity and structure, even if it didn't blow me over. Some felt it lacked freshness. It possibly didn't sparkle?
