August 6, 2020 - Very saturated dark garnet in the glass. PnP some violet, cassis, and gravel dust on the nose. Feels quite lively on the palate. Some pencil shavings but mostly cherries and a bit of peppery hotness on the finish.

After an hour of air the nose is stronger, and more plumy with a hint of mint. The acidity is still quite lively, but starts to mellow. More brown sugar notes to add to the cherry and plum fruit, with a lingering savouriness that hints at feinboss. You can feel the 14.5%, but not unpleasantly, it adds to the bigness of the wine. Very full of flavour, but not overwhelmingly dense. That powerful South African expression. Lots going on. Excellent balance. But not subtle.

July 3, 2019 - Tasted at the Three Borders Wine Group, Hampshire, UK. The first of three vintages tasted (2011, 2012 and 2013). For me, this was the best, but the other vintages were also excellent. Dark ruby, slight browning on edges. Plummy dark berry fruit on the nose. Perfectly mature now. Black berries, marzipan, cherries. Softens in the glass. Delightful.

April 25, 2019 - The nose reveals ripe, lush, floral, baking spice laced fruits. Blackberries, dark cherries, black raspberries, black plum, cherries and strawberries. Beautifully layered baking spices; caramel, mocha & dark chocolate. Dark, rich soils, dry crushed rocks, black licorice, black cherry cola, steeped fruit tea and fragrant, red, blue and dark florals.

Beautiful full body with powdery, cocoa, dry, meaty, sticky tannins. Really nice, structure, tension, length and balance. Drink now or hold another 5-7 years. Ripe, lush, floral baking spice laced fruits. Blackberries, dark cherries, black raspberries, black plum, cherries and strawberries. Beautifully layered baking spices, caramel, mocha & dark chocolate. Dark, rich soils, dry crushed rocks, dark spice, black licorice, black cherry cola, steeped fruit tea and fragrant, red, blue and dark florals. The acidy is again round and beautiful. The finish, rich, lush, elegant, balanced and delicious. It’s persists endlessly.

    Tasted at Kanonkop.

July 14, 2018 - Cassis, blackberry, plum, green capsicum, and oak spice on the nose. Robust, chalky tannins on the palate. Medium+ finish. Needs something robust to go with it at this young age.

April 15, 2018 - Tasted blind. Dark ruby color with a fruity nose that’s reminiscent of a Bordeaux blend. The palate is full-bodied and has a modern feel. Flavors of black currant, dark chocolate and tobacco dominate the core that leads to a medium length but pleasantly spicy finish. Drink now until 2031.
