January 11, 2014 - {screwcap, 14.5%, A$12} Cabernet-merlot blend. Lots of Barossa sweet red & black fruit. At this price you don’t get much varietal definition, but there’s a mass of ripe fruits, spiced with peppery notes (merlot?), a soft lick of coconut oak, classic menthol, very gentle loose-knit tannins, and fairly ragged, artificial-tasting acidity. It’s not raw enough to be called rustic, but it’s still a bit commercial and simple, with a short finish that does belie the sweetness you get on the nose. Quintessential BBQ wine.
