Community Tasting Notes 2

December 1, 2014 - Consistent with my previous tasting notes. A nice, fruity VDN with enough complexity to keep it interesting and enough elegance to keep it coming across as too heavy or porty. A reliable and delicious red sticky.

August 27, 2014 - A blend of Grenache and Grenache Gris.

Luminous and quite opaque pomegranate color with a dark mahogany hue. The nose is very sweet, rich and quite opulent with intense aromas of sweet blueberries, bilberry jam, strawberry jam, some meaty tones, a little bit of ripe raspberry, a hint of chocolate and a hint of raisin. The wine is full-bodied and very sweet with rich and super-juicy flavors of plum compote, dried figs, raisins, strawberries, some floral violet tones, a little bit of spicy bitterness, some blackcurrant jam and a sweet, lifted touch of volatile acidity. The wine is rather modest in acidity, which exacerbates the sense of sweetness, but still keeps the wine from tasting cloying. The light tannins contribute a little bit to the structure. The finish is sweet, rich and a bit sticky with persistent flavors of raisins, dried dates, some stewed plums and a hint of strawberry jam.

A very nice, rich and fruity VDN with a lot of weight, yet the wine doesn't come across as too heavy or porty, but instead surprisingly sophisticated. Overall the wine feels a bit ponderous and sticky, but not overtly so. There's a good amount of depth and complexity to the wine, so it is pretty enjoyable right now, but shows good aging potential for the next decade or so. Lovely stuff, good value at 16,98€.
