September 20, 2022 - You should always drink wines in kind...TIme and time again, I say this to friends. Dont mix your salad with your desert and dont mix your Bordeaux with your California Cabs/Reds.

Tonight this showed very generic and in-between something teetering on confusion and hesitation. No signs of aged Bordeaux qualities, yet not as lush as the older California wine next to it. The oak creme was evident, the acidity was evident, the structure was evident, and the fruit was absent or asleep. The 2003 vintage is all about fruit, so this was just a mess for the money. Hopefully just a bad bottle...drink again.

September 7, 2022 - Needs a couple hours of air time to entice the nose to come out. Really intense mid-pallet and long finish. Enjoyed with grilled steaks.

August 21, 2022 - As noted in January, at this stage it does need a lot of aeration to really appreciate it, and is one the later left bank developers of the vintage. Beautifully perfumed, the nose is deeply aromatic with blackcurrant, red currants, and cedar. The palate is robust with great balance and depth, and is in many ways not typical of the year. Likewise the finish is lengthy and unwavering in its balance. For myself it lacks the "in your face" decadence of my favourite 2003s such as the Barton and Ducru-Beaucaillou, but I feel it could be a dark horse, and a silver fox in a few years time.

August 10, 2022 - I dont think this has evolved much since I last tasted this. It should hold for a while yet. In a really good place and very enjoyable.

July 27, 2022 - Decanted 5 hr (unintentionally long). Medium ruby, very long legs, on 👃 ripe raspberries, prunes, light leather, dry forest floor, rubber eraser, cinnamon. Dry, highly acidic, medium-to-strong frontal tannins, medium-to-full body milky structure with a ripe raspberry finish.

(CHAT LEOVILLE POYFERRE) #1; COLOR-dark; NOSE-classic bell pepper, V8 juice, black cassis, black currant, musty (like an attic); TASTE-incredibly silky on the attack through the finish, this is a polished Old World wine w/ beautiful extracted New World fruit (hot 2003 vintage), perfect balance & harmony, extremely good, black currant & cassis, red cherries, beautiful raspberries, secondary layers of smoked tobacco, really ripe candied flavors on the finish, smooth as a wine gets, this is Ultimate Bordeaux; RP-98; GV-97+
