Pure elegance! This wine is in full force right now.
Leather, herbs, cooked meats, currant, raisin, cinnamon, soft and silky texture, great mouth feel. This bottle is of first growth level quality at a fraction of the cost. A definite buy.
Still lots of years of life in this wine, tannins are well structured, but also drinking well now.

March 15, 2020 - Drank with family in St. Lucia. Came together very quickly and showed the freshness and balance that I remember with previous bottles. Dark fruits, but not too ripe from this hot vintage. The top bordeaux properties have made fantastic wines in 2003.

March 13, 2020 - I have decanted the wine for 3hrs and it opened up with beautiful and intense dark fruit nose. The first thing you notice is concentration, there is a lot of wine in the glass. It is still little tannic, with medium acidity and lots of dark fruit. Also it feels fresh, I would not say it is 17yo. However it lacks the wow factor which I was expecting, but maybe it moved to the other bottle I will keep for few more years :)

March 7, 2020 - Popped, quick decant. Drank over dinner. First bottle in about 10 years. Drinking just how I imagined. Still very youthful. Side of road stand fresh Red fruits. Just a hint of some Smokey dark fruits lingering, waiting to come to fore. A hint of brown sugar, chocolate (maybe baker’s) and a hint of nice wet cigar leaves. Palate is superbly smooth, no hard edges. Maybe a tad dusty. The finish is tasty but holds a little heat. I will not open another for 10 years when this wine will be 98 points. Parker got it right the first time.

(CHAT LEOVILLE POYFERRE) #1; COLOR-dark; NOSE-classic bell pepper, V8 juice, black cassis, black currant, musty (like an attic); TASTE-incredibly silky on the attack through the finish, this is a polished Old World wine w/ beautiful extracted New World fruit (hot 2003 vintage), perfect balance & harmony, extremely good, black currant & cassis, red cherries, beautiful raspberries, secondary layers of smoked tobacco, really ripe candied flavors on the finish, smooth as a wine gets, this is Ultimate Bordeaux; RP-98; GV-97+

(Chateau Léoville-Poyferré St Julien) Dark, exotic fruit nose. Damsons, with a hint of blackcurrant. Ripe, balanced, seamless structure. It has a gentle elegance, with creamy fruit and a peppery edge. Really gentle, fine tannins and correct acidity. This is very good indeed. Certainly the equal of Léoville Barton, if not slightly ahead.
