February 15, 2020 - Beautifully balanced with floral notes and pretty red fruits.

January 1, 2020 - Popped and poured. Nose of red cherry, black raspberry, currant, graphite and herbs de Provence. Ripe red fruit, tobacco leaf, graphite and red licorice on the palate. Very long finish with excellent balance. Medium to full bodied. Drinking very well, but drink soon. Served with grilled duck breast and a cherry sauce.

December 21, 2019 - Recently purchased vintage and couldn't wait any longer to taste it.

    - Preparation = no decanter this time, just pop and pour, drank over two nights
    - Colour = still deep red, but with watery rim
    - Nose = 100 points for me, vulcanic stone, mineral, tarmac on a hot day, cherry, woody, herbal, coffee, chocolate, sharp, edgy, vibrant
    - Taste = can't follow the nose any more, most fruit has gone, but still some dried red fruits to be found, a bit too light for me, to watery
    - Finish = classic SHL style, goes on quite long, quite spicy, less fruity then I was hoping

Again, lovely bottle of SHL, drink now as this won't improve. But it will still impress those who love their classic aged Bordeaux wines.

    December 13, 2019 - Drink now, don‘t decant.
    Full bodied, perfect with steak.

November 16, 2019 - Old world style. Delicate and refined. Strange thing is there has not been too much nose to speak of for the last three bottles since 2016. Tea and tobacco on the palate. smooth and balanced

(Chateau Smith-Haut-Lafitte Pessac-Léognan) Although I approached this wine with a little trepidation in view of the vintage, I was really impressed by the aromatics. A very densely styled nose, packed full of smoky tobacco and sweetly maturing fruit, with touches of dry leaves and undergrowth. A firm substance on the palate, with a deep and concentrated layer of fruit and delicious maturity laid over the substance of a seven-year wine. Lots of spice and grip. Lots of meat with a chewy edge too. Low acidity, so not to everyone's liking (and I didn't think it would be to mine), but this is really delicious to drink now.
