March 1, 2024 - Kräftiges Bordeauxrot. Erdige Nase, Kräuter, Tee, Rauch, tiefgründig, was für ein Duft. Top Gaumen, elegant, feinmaschiges Tannin, perfekt gereift, da ist noch Frucht, da ist Leben, ein perfektes Beispiel, dass 2003 eben nicht nur schlechte Weine hervorgebracht hat. Grosses Kino, jetzt bis 2033+
December 25, 2023 - Last of our birthyear bottles for our son. Drank with beef bourguignon, which paired quite nicely.
Gave it a 90 minute decant while the stew was simmering. In the glass dark ruby core to a bricking meniscus. On opening nose showed smoked meats, spices, and some fading brambly fruit. Palate was silky with spices and leather notes dominating. Finish was balanced and long.
After 90 minutes in the decanter the smoked meat note was gone, but replaced with leather, dried tobacco and bay leaf. The spice and brambly fruit remained. Palate was similar maybe a little rounder than on opening and enjoyable through the couple of hours it took us to finish the bottle.
Since he'll be studying abroad and we won't be with him on his 21st this was a nice way to celebrate a little early.
July 29, 2023 - PNP- Mostly secondary notes and flavors. Initially some bright acidity that faded quickly in the glass. Not bad just not memorable and somewhat flat. Drank a decade older than it is imho. Drink up!
April 25, 2023 - En Primeur campaign for the 2022 vintage Day Four (Bordeaux): From Magnum. Slightly meaty dark hued fruits, touch of sour bois, a little fruit tea and sweet spice. Nice nose but a little forward. Juicy, fleshy, slight alcohol prickle is the early indicator of the vintage, savoury dark fruits, chalky tannins. Rather nice.
April 1, 2023 - Cigar box, brambleberry, leather; full, rich, smooth, expansive, long, and well-developed; not exceptional but very good
March 18, 2023 - Elegant and balanced - not a WOW wine, but so well made and holding up well.
Everything works well together - and no sharp edges.
February 18, 2023 - Beautiful dry cocoa/chocolate notes - like hot cocoa. Tannins we’re velvety and balanced nicely. Fruit faded nicely into the background and this opened beautifully over 2 hours

December 26, 2022 - Drank from a magnum. We enjoyed this with smoked prime rib for Christmas dinner and it did not disappoint. Fully mature, yet still lively, with beautiful pure fruit that is enticing and luscious. Tannins fully refined adding a modest amount of complexity to the finish. But it is the sweet core of fruit that really made this a winner.
