April 7, 2024 - We’re certainly on the countryside here. Funky bouquet with aromas of farmyard, smoked meat, tar, tobacco. There’s a whiff of violets too. Marks of blueberry pie, black olives, bacon on the airy palate, good lift. Old-school Côte-Rôtie, much to my liking and much to my surprise, Susanne loves the wine too. My first bottle - wait 3+ years before opening another.

December 28, 2023 - I didn't detect any specific flaw, but this bottle flattened out with air -- it had its normal explosive aromatics when I opened it, but by the time we came to drink it, an hour or so later, it was very muted and monochromatic, drinkable but bland.

June 4, 2023 - Gareth's N Rhone vs SA Syrah; 6/3/2023-6/4/2023 (La Cabotte): Second time I've (knowingly) tasted this. Meaty, savoury but also pure - singing right now. One of my fellow diners described this as having a pomerol vibe. My no2 wine of the dinner.

June 1, 2023 - Syrah Battle: Northern Rhone vs South Africa (Cabotte): Double-decanted a few hours before. Oh boy - this wine was in my sweet spot from the first sniff. Deep and savoury on the nose, which reminded me of ink and dark meat but was somehow also clean as a whistle. Sleek and well-balanced on the palate, with the flavour of black olive to season the dark fruit, and very long. With time in the glass the wine became seductive and truffley, and reminded me of a mature Pomerol. Delicious!

October 9, 2022 - Very dark colour. Classic rôtie nose, olives, herbs, deep black fruit. Flowers.
Ripeness and concentration on the palate, without excessive heaviness but definitely more than the more elegant 2010. meatier, but also more floral. There is also a very agreeable minerality on the finish, and acidity keeping it on the right side of fresh.
This drinks like a bit of a monster that has - just - been tamed by judicious winemaking.
