Community Tasting Notes 2

February 19, 2020 - Kiona Merlot, 2010. A big merlot, hard to buy outside WA. At 10 years of age, the fruit has largely turned into a real bouquet. Cellar, earth tones rather than plum and raisins. Superb acidicity. Some complexity, but not supremely complex. Strong tannins still. Secondary and tertiary tannin integration products present. Could pass for a cabernet sauvignon. Likely cause it's grown in the tiny Red Mountain AVA which is very arid and dry, thus enabling controlled irrigation (the actual vineyard pictured below). The age shows, in what is almost like a Pomerolesque way. Washington merlot is defintly worth cellaring.

November 17, 2014 - Big wine. A bit unbalanced at this time. Lots of fruit up front, round tannins and a bit too boozy. Will try again in 6 months.
