Community Tasting Notes 12

October 22, 2023 - Just a great wine. Hums on every note. I remember 1st tasting this wine several years ago at the winery. Blew me away then. Still does. Was fortunate that WH Winery decided to release some of their older vintages recently. Jumped all over the offer. Very glad I did. 2 more beauties left.

December 25, 2021 - Started drinking on these in Jan 2015 and the last time I had the pleasure was almost 4 years ago. I said this one had 5-7 years of optimum drinking and I would say that missed that by probably 2-3 years. Should have said 7-10 years. Cork was in perfect condition with no compromise. DARK maroon stain on the cork. Nose was immediately rather strange although no cork taint detected here. This wine started off with some wet mushroom and vegetal character on the very front right after cork pop. Left it alone for 30 minutes while landing the plane on the turkey, and this one did an INSANE amount of growing in that time. Nose of red rose petals, earthy raspberry rhubarb and black cherry pie with herbal spice and a hint of mushroom funk. Entry and mid palate echoes the nose with the midpalate displaying a lot of dusty wildflower and medicinal black cherry funk. Finishes with good acidic character, tannin has died down considerably, leaving a good balance of sweet fruit, complexity of young vs old and a balance of spicy vs smooth. This is my last bottle of this, and honestly I think I am ok with this. On Christmas Day, dinner with family, this one stepped up to the plate and knocked it out of the park.

August 18, 2021 - Life is good and this wine is excellent, at its peak.

February 1, 2018 - Average community score on this one is a 93.7, my rating 95 which was a while back. This wine is a solid 95 even still, and has 96 potential in the next year when it will be a pop and pour wine. This is a hawthorne and jasmine, purple, black and blue fruit, earth and brambly cabernet franc that takes no prisoners. A full bodied wine from start to finish, this one has a nose of wildflowers, blueberry and brambleberry. The entry is dark, full bodied, still a touch acidic and a touch sweet with a blue/black/purple dark entry, giving way to a touch of petrol in the middle. Darker finish actually, dusty black fig and blackberry with a hint of fruitcake spice. Still a bit tannic as well when served PNP, but backed off after 30 minutes in the glass (enjoyed via Coravin). Still has 5-7 years of life left.

December 4, 2017 - Deep dark center, red rim with limited signs of age.
Heady nose of pressed black and red berries, plums, creamy vanilla.
Smooth and balanced, classic Cab Franc with plums and leaves, very good length.
Drinking very well now - one of the best Cab Francs in the valley.
