April 17, 2017 - Intense red fruit balanced by dry tannins while swimming in herbs and spices. Still delicious.
April 20, 2016 - Well, I said I was going to give it 6 more months ... OK, it's been 7 and it's come together for me ... by that I mean it's a compromise ... oh if legislatures could only do that ... my bad ... wishful thinking ... she's scoring higher than me so the 90! is the rating. Pours nice and dark with dark fruit on the nose and palate with that touch of vanilla. If you have some bottles, keep tasting every 6 months and I believe you'll be rewarded!
March 29, 2016 - Pretty uninteresting. Dark fruit and over extracted fruit dominate. Not a great value compared to Tys previous wines at this price point. A definite pass in the future.
February 19, 2016 - Dense, inky ruby. Strawberry pie, cedar, and molasses on the nose. Medium bodied, cherries, pepper, black olives, sage, soft tannins, dark chocolate, and a medium plus finish. Pretty good for a kitchen sink blend.
February 16, 2016 - This continues to be a playful blend with strong Zin notes. Jammy, with loads of strawberry and raspberry on the front end.
September 17, 2015 - She liked it more than I did. She likes 'rustic' wines ... I thought it hadn't quite come together, hence the compromise. Poured nice and dark. Aerated it ... dark fruit on the nose and palate. I thought there was a little 'heat'. I'm thinking it'll get even better with another 6 months or so ... we'll see.
February 3, 2015 - Decanting/aerating this wine helps wake up the complexity in the blend. Tastes like it has more Petite Sirah than it does, which is a good thing in my book.
January 2, 2015 - Pretty good with roast pork. I felt like this was fruity, but not "jammy." I felt like it lacked body.
December 29, 2014 - Very similar flavor profile to the Prisoner but more spice and tannic structure, making it a food wine as well as a great drinker. Much better price also. Ty Caton is a recent discovery for us but so far, we're very impressed with everything we've had from there.
37% Zin, 15% Petite Syrah, 14% Merlot, 14% Syrah, 13% Cab Sav, and 7% Petite Verdot.
April 22, 2014 - Aerated & decanted for about an hour. Excellent with steak. Even better about an hour after dinner with dark chocolate brownies. Fairly typical of a Ty wine - big, bold and fruity. A bit more spice than some past Ty offerings, but very well balanced and very smooth. Highly recommended.
