September 30, 2019 - Just showing great, there is a lot to like here. The wine is rich, almost opulent in texture, but it is not over the top ripe, or hot. Instead, there is a wealth of creme de cassis, dark chocolate, cigar box, black cherry, tobacco leaf and wet earth. Full-bodied, concentrated and closing in on full maturity, the wine improved in the glass. Not classic in style, still a beautiful Pauillac. This is probably the best showing I recall for this wine. If you have been waiting for the right moment to check it out, there is no time like the present.

August 28, 2019 - This is a wonderful drink, and to date has delivered with consistency. The fruit is opulent on the nose, full of plum, cherry and blackberry with the tannin softened on the palate. It is displaying secondary characteristics and starting to show tertiary notes. The depth and balance are impeccable with a lengthy finish of 30 seconds plus. As mentioned previously this is the best post millennial Pichon Baron drinking, (I won't even veņture towards the 2000 for another 2 or 3 years,) and outdrinks previous vintages apart from the 1989 and 1990. This now only needs an hour or two in the decanter. As fantastic as it is, it is not a wine I can see myself laying down for the long haul, and will enjoy it over the next decade. 96+

July 21, 2019 - Excellent, high-class. Complex bouquet of cigar box, pencil shavings, creme de cassis, plums, black olives, and violets. Balanced and reasonably light on the palate. Everything in tune for drinking now.

(Château Pichon-Longueville Baron) 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot. Transparent, but still dark. Chalky, indistinct nose, showing some black fruits. Noticeably present oak, with some alcohol evident on the nose. Extremely tannic, oaky palate. Fruit ripe, but definitely dry, not fresh or juicy. Lower acidity means a shorter finish. Will this last? Drink in six to 12 years. Winery Spotlight: Château Pichon-Longueville

(Château Pichon-Longueville Baron) Intriguing caramel and faint chocolate nose; tight, plum, cherry palate with a hint of hoisin, sweet tannins; medium finish

(Chateau Pichon-Baron Pauillac) A rather muted nose compared with Pichon-Lalande, although still showing exotic, perfumed and violet-infused black fruits with a roasted nut edge. Succulent, creamy, with firm tannins, quite well knitted together with the substance of the wine. Full, exotic, slightly brawny, but with good acidity. There is some finesse here, and overall it's a touch more exciting than young Pichon-Baron usually is. Lovely floral-tinged finish. A success!
