July 15, 2019 - Popped poured. Last bottle of a case purchased EP. As is so often the case with fine Bordeaux in its first 3 decades, the last bottle was the best. Rich and ripe due to heat of the vintage, but no trace of roasted notes. The nose and palate offer very good complexity. Just a delicious wine!

June 29, 2019 - Drank over a couple of hours after spending 3 hours in a decanter. Bang on left bank Bordeaux, cigar box, ripe cassis, black olives and coffee blended into nicely seasoned oak. Tannins have softened and the first signs of more complex secondary and tertiary flavours appearing behind the primary upfront fruit. Really enjoyed this, years left.

May 23, 2019 - Nose was good - tobacco, mellow pepper and what you would expect a good bordeaux to smell like.

Overall didn’t like it for three reasons
    1. Didn’t have enough fruit/ freshness to it
    2. Tannins were still tight and didn’t have elegance to it
    3. Not enough acidity/ balance.

Edit: had the wine over 3 days. While the wine opened up a bit, still not a fan.

May 5, 2019 - Still very young compared to 1990 and 1989. A bit more modern probably because of the warm vintage dark fruit dominates the red. Good structure/ mineral and some nice tannic grip.

I would hold another year but that was my last bottle.

(Château Pichon-Longueville Baron) 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot. Transparent, but still dark. Chalky, indistinct nose, showing some black fruits. Noticeably present oak, with some alcohol evident on the nose. Extremely tannic, oaky palate. Fruit ripe, but definitely dry, not fresh or juicy. Lower acidity means a shorter finish. Will this last? Drink in six to 12 years.

(Chateau Pichon-Baron Pauillac) A rather muted nose compared with Pichon-Lalande, although still showing exotic, perfumed and violet-infused black fruits with a roasted nut edge. Succulent, creamy, with firm tannins, quite well knitted together with the substance of the wine. Full, exotic, slightly brawny, but with good acidity. There is some finesse here, and overall it's a touch more exciting than young Pichon-Baron usually is. Lovely floral-tinged finish. A success!
