May 1, 2020 - Very satisfying Zin. Nothing overdone here, just a well made wine that is nicely balanced and equally enjoyable with or without food. More CA Zin should be made this way.

April 21, 2020 - Slo-oxed for 10 minutes, but could use another 10 or 20. A bit of funk on the nose, but it dissipates to show red fruit and earth. There is some sediment. The medium bodied palate has a core of red fruit, some dark red fruit, a good amount of spice, some earth, resolved tannins, and juicy acidity. A very satisfying bottle of the lighter of Fred's zinfandels. Should hold for another couple of years.

March 18, 2020 - The last of my 2013 Shale Terrace. Still has gobs of fruit. Well-structured and balanced but with the backbone to go another few years.

December 30, 2019 - True to my review from nearly 4 years ago, this wine has evolved very nicely. The fruit has faded ever so slightly - will try again tomorrow to see if it opens more - so maybe it's time to drink up. A very food-friendly wine (think Italian red), drank well with the chicken lasagne from Big John's.

March 30, 2016 - Fred does it again! This is my 1st taste of the '13 futures. Beautiful Shale Terrace zin with loads of ripe blackberries, black cherries, a hint of baking spices, well integrated fine grained tannins, zingy acidity and a medium long finish.
