Community Tasting Notes 10

April 18, 2024 - Decanted for 2 hours. Cellared since release, high fill the cork was only stained 1/4 inch. Ruby red. Lovely and very alive nose of blackberry, tar, tapenade, pepper and Provençal herbs. Lively palate, good acidity and fruit wrapped in a saline infused texture that is silky and leads to a medium length finish.

October 9, 2022 - My friend Roger was in town working harvest at Scherrer. We had him Fred and Judi over for dinner and Fred brought this gem. It’s amazing what good provenance can do for an already great wine. Had one of these about 4 years ago and remember it fondly.

This one pours a dark magenta color with absolutely no bricking. Nose of dried flowers, sage, mushrooms and dark berries. The palate while complete is elegant and seamless with blackberry, loam, dried black cherry and a dusting of white pepper. The balance on this wine is incredible from nose to finish, savory, with perfect acidity and fully resolved tannins. Such a treat at 27yrs. This very well could be the best bottle of Syrah I’ve ever tasted.

May 11, 2010 - Medium full body, color looks fresh virtually unchanged; nose is beautiful, hints of mushroom and damp earth, then the palate explodes with vibrant, sweet dark syrah fruit - rich and intense, but not overripe in the least; some exotic spice on the long finish, this is amazingly youthful, with at least another decade ahead of it. Very nicely balanced with nice acidity, and just the right tannic structure. A fabulous example of California syrah, all the more interesting by virtue of its Russian River source.

April 2, 2009 - My last bottle. Still just enough life left to provide some drinking pleasure. If you have them, I'd drink very soon.

January 22, 2008 - Seattle Round 2: Rhone vs. Rhone Ranger (Seattle, WA): Black cherry and other fruits on the nose. Blackberry and clove on the finish. Good balance and weight.
