September 9, 2015 - Amazingly young, good clear color, lychee and rocks, good acids for Gewurztraminer, nice length. Holds up till day 2! B+/A-
August 15, 2015 - Lovely nose, aromas of ripe of elder flowers, lychee and mild honey. Amazingly fresh for a 30 years old wine, most likely because of the acidity.
Must have passed it's peak but nevertheless enjoyable.
October 30, 2011 - Really lovely nose. Most of the aromatics are faded, but the flavors are still remarkably fresh. Lychee, petrol, minerals, orange, rubber... Lovely and at it's peak for sure.
February 28, 2011 - The Portland Crew with Tooch (Kirk's Place): L+ gold. Nose of strong fresh lychee with an undertone of peachy nuttiness (oxidative?). Palate: med body, dry, with med+ acidity, and med- bitterness. Some nuttiness on the midpalate gives way to a flavorful and clean finish. I like this wine. 90.
February 28, 2011 - Wine in Portland (Maine) (Portland, Maine): Nose was lively and fresh! Color was remarkably youthful....was this a Harvey Rodenstock fake? Incredible amounts of lychee fruit nectar on the nose with some lingering minerals and white florals. Palate didn't have the youthfulness the nose did. It showed lemon herbs and some musky white flowers. This is the oldest Gewurztraminer I've had - and while it may not have been firing on all cylinders, it was a really fun wine to try.
December 22, 2010 - Mostly tasty wines with Christine's shabu shabu. (Christine's): Plenty of petrol on the nose, though still showing classic lichee and spice aromas. On the palate, it’s too old for me. I tend to like Gewürztraminers with some sweetness to them and at this age and in Trimbach’s drier style, there’s no sweetness left. Mineral and petrol dominate the palate. There’s some grapefruit pith that veers a little too bitter and I also find the alcohol to be sticking out too much, which is my real problem with drier Gewürtz’s. To my tastes, when you ferment most of the sugar out, I find this wine can be too unbalanced. Jay, on the other hand, loves this wine and the others also seemed to like it more than I did. B.
August 5, 2009 - Straw-yellow colored. Fresh and lifted nose of spice, florals, turkish delight and honey. Plenty of acid on the palate and great length, finishing dry after some rich fruit on the front palate. Amazing for the age, could probably go another 10 years without too many issues.
November 6, 2008 - Oldest dry Gewurz I've had, and showing very well. Classic lychee meets ginger, good acidity, some Rieslingesque petrol notes. John thinks it a little hot. Good length, I enjoy. B+
