August 27, 2022 - Screwcap, 14% alc. Dull, bricking, mid red; displaying some age.

A meaty and earthy, berried nose, with a dollop of vanilla, cola, and some subtle woody notes.

Showing more vibrant fruitiness upfront on the mid-weighted palate, before becoming more savoury on the long and acid driven finish. Very fine tannins are still hanging in there, providing structural support.

Opinion: Very easy to slurp by itself, yet this wine is great with a variety of foods. In a good drinking place and should hold here for at least 5 years.

April 25, 2022 - Peppery spice, blackberry and plum. Alcohol shows through on the palate, rich fruits back it up enough but it's rather distracting. Probably heading on a downward slope, for this bottle anyway.

October 23, 2020 - Screwcap, 14% alc. Bricking, medium red.

Pleasant red. Graphite, smoke, dark cherry, leather, spicy cola.
Spicy entry to palate. Medium bodied. Plentiful, fine, kitten’s tongue tannin. Sweet fruited finish.

Mid garnet, with slight bricking. Leaps out of the glass. Herbs and savoury notes mix attractively with the red and dark fruits. Palate is in harmony tonight, with plenty of length on the finish. Drinking so well right now.

November 7, 2018 - Very good to outstanding.

Clean, medium, ruby to broad graduated garnet rim.
Clean, medium (+) developing nose of red cherry, strawberry, mixed herbs and all spice.
Dry, medium acid, fine grained fully integrated medium tannins, medium (+) alcohol (14%) - unusual for Clonakilla for it to be (+). Medium bodied , medium (+) flavour intensity of red cherry, herbs and all spice, a long drying finish, with the spice really lingering.

This is a very good to outstanding quality wine, with beautiful textural and flavour balance. There is enough acid here to keep this wine alive and further developing for years to come, although it is certainly pleasant to drink now.
