May 23, 2019 - HOT DAMN. This is out of control delicious. Everything I love about Etna and Terre Nere.

April 1, 2018 - Two hour decant, this has a fantastic nose and palate, with cherry, minerals, florals and some light clove. Complex on the palate with many layers of flavor to peel back, this medium mouthfeel, medium length finish wine is quite wonderful.

August 27, 2016 - Mineral-driven with ripe cherries and raspberries, elevated acidity and firm tannins - but still medium body. Dry. Some alcohol warmth, a certain roundness probably from the use of used french oak barrigues but there is nothing "oaky" about this wine, rest assured.

May 15, 2016 - If I had to pick one wine from these recent tastings to put in my cellar today, this would be it. The 2012 Calderara Sottana was deep, rich, and vibrant. On the nose, I found dark earth, ripe black cherry, crushed raspberry, sweet herbs, dusty spice and minerals. On the palate, silky textures were contrasted by sweet tannin-laced black cherry, spice, cocoa and saline-minerality. It coated the senses throughout the finish with concentrated cherry and pomegranate, while hints of tannin lingered on. Wow!
