Community Tasting Notes 5

August 12, 2017 - Going Away Dinner with Friends (Lake Effect, UT): This was a fun wine to get to taste, this wine shows the difference in Terrior very, very well. Taste it next to a Chinon and the difference is obvious. Dark in color, almost hinting at purple. On the nose you do get a good amount of green pepper on opening, but this blows off pretty quickly and the fruit becomes more obvious. Dark, dark fruits and a lot of earth notes on this, graphite, gravel and a hint of vanilla from the oak. This seams to be something in between, new world in many ways, but also shows some earthiness which is lovely. Tannins are also elevated to high on this and could easily be mistaken for Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa, especially after being open for a while. This wine is made to be set down and hidden away for a while longer. I'd give any you have 5+ years to really settle down... A lot of fun

February 18, 2015 - During PNV week, tasting at Cardinale hosted by Chris Carpenter. A terrrific host, vintner and wine educator...

First of the tasting. Dark fruits, some green pepper, vegetal notes on mid and back palate. Thin finish

October 9, 2014 - I opened this back on 8/1/14 with the coravin. I guess I should say I accessed it on 8/1/2014. It is still as fresh and bold as it was back then. With that said I'm trying to love this wine but...I just don't Dark ruby, with more rose bush (not roses the bush here) just more vegetative notes than fruit or anything else. Decent finish but nothing that special.

October 1, 2014 - This is more a note on coravin. I opened this on 8/31/2014 and today it was just as good. Amazing product. Tannins were still massive and this has not changed since day one of opening.

September 1, 2014 - I tend to expect great things from La Jota & Mt Brave since it is Chris Carpenter who is the winemaker. I mean this guy makes Cardinale and Lakoya which are my absolute favorites. He's also a heck of a nice guy and the winery is absolutely gorgeous. With that said I was a bit disappointed with this. I used a Coravin to access the wine and therefore I will write a few notes on the wine over the next few months as well. Anyhow the cab franc was more terroir or just lacking the fruit. I love cab franc as the wine is usually more floral with silky tannins but this was more vegetative in nature. Decent finish and I think it will get better as it ages.
