December 16, 2021 - Unusually dark body. Nose is heavy with black cherries, slight rosemary, pencil shavings. Overall medium complexity but alluring. Palate is smooth and fruit forward, dominated by the merlot. Tastes of more dark berries and cherries, some tobacco. Medium to medium plus acidity, pairs extremely well with food. Definitely more Italian than right bank merlot. Alcohol well integrated. Not much structure, little to no tannins is where this wine loses points for me. I do wonder if its a little past its prime. This was thrown in for free with a large wine order but I think it delivers fairly in the $60-80 range. Drink up, I don't think this will improve.

December 8, 2021 - I think this bottle was partially flawed, flat and slightly oxidized. Still drank well after 30 mins of air but something was still off. Providence unknown so could be shady cellaring…

February 16, 2020 - This SuperTuscan was on sale for $70 CAD at Co-op (normally $110—not sure about *that*). It was deep ruby or even brick-red in colour, with a slight orange to the rim.

There were pronounced aromas of black cherry, blackberry, a hint of tobacco, and a hint of fallen leaves. Aromas of alcohol started to show as this warmed up.

On the palate were pronounced notes of juicy black cherry, with a hint of raisin and a hint of black olive. Acidity was medium-plus and crisp. Alcohol was high, and it was bone dry and full-bodied. Tannins were medium in strength and drying in the gums but were silky, ripe, and oaky. The finish was long and everything felt integrated.

Overall, a very smooth and integrated wine. A nice acidity keeps this high-alcohol wine from being flabby. The finish was more about the oak than the fruit and lasted 60+ seconds. Very enjoyable and went well with lasagna. $110? Probably not. But at $70 this has value.

June 10, 2019 - A BDX-style blend that is still as fresh and tightly-wound as if it were 5 years old. Absolutely needs decanting. Dark, deeply concentrated purple with almost no rim variation. Toasty nose with prevalent oak and dried fruits, dry leaves.

Linear, tight, acidic, hot (14.5). Balanced by complex fruit and a masculine structure. Dried leather?

    Very sophisticated.

March 16, 2017 - Wine Club #2 (Abe's House): This was "interesting" to say the least. I don't think I've ever smelled a worst bottle of wine in my life. Ultra pungent on the nose to the point that it was hard to get past it and actually drink the wine. Once you got over to tasting it, it actually wasn't that bad but I likely won't be buying this bottle of wine again.
