September 29, 2023 - Joined the Jaffurs wine club when I was a student at UCSB. The Verna's was always one of my favorites. I drank my last one years ago. But when I saw this one on auction I had to buy it. Last Verna's produced by Jaffurs. Like hooking up with an old girlfriend.
December 27, 2020 - These used to be my favorite Jaffurs, but then Craig said the vineyard was not being farmed right and he stopped buying the fruit with this vintage.
I have moved onto loving Bien Nacido, Kimsey and Larner.
This is my last bottle of Verna’s. I wish I could say it was the best, but it’s not. The ‘06, ‘07 and ‘08 compete for that honor.
Lots of tapenade, tart black raspberry, anise and that tanginess that only Verna’s brings. Not sure this improves much from here, but I will never know.
I bid you a fond farewell Verna. I enjoyed your company.
August 22, 2020 - Beautiful
September 14, 2019 - Wow! First notes from the decanter was that of freshly baked chocolate cherry bread. As the wine stretched its legs, hints of blueberry and saddle leather. Soft tannins and a beautiful finish. No reason to wait, enjoy this fantastic wine now. Check out @west_coast_wino on Instagram for more great recommendations, reviews and stories.
February 28, 2019 - Great spot right now.
August 10, 2018 - Best bottle so far. Mint, anise, blueberry, pepper. With air becomes more dark fruit oriented with tar notes. Excellent. Entering prime time.
June 19, 2018 - Needed air to shine and showed notes of earth, mushroom and dark fruits. Definitely different than any other vintage of this wine I’ve had. It sounds weird, but it seemed more like an earthy Pinot.
February 24, 2018 - I’ve had really bad luck with ‘12 Jaffurs. Bad batch of corks? At least the 3rd corked ‘12 Jaffurs I’ve had.
Jaffurs will replace. Thank you!
January 18, 2018 - Needs a medium amount of air time to bring out the spice. Should improve a bit and hold, I would guess, or another 5-8 years.
December 16, 2017 - Bursting with high toned fruit followed by a pepper finish.
