January 13, 2020 - Cellared since release, perfect cork and fill. Pop 'n pour, opens over an hour. Dark Ted to rim. Forward nose of black fruits, some tar and oak with a touch of alcoholic heat. Full body, tons of ripe fruit, some mild roasted character, good balance, not flabby, tannins on the back end are less prominent than 2 years ago, long finish. No signs of tertiary complexity yet. Excellent but is showing a bit of roasted character that I didn’t notice, despite looking for it, in earlier bottles.

January 11, 2020 - Bouquet masked partially by eucalyptus and rubbery notes with stewed fruits and vanilla underneath. Great palate with ripe fruit balanced by nice acidity. Finish with medium length, on the second night more refined, but still a bit drying. Great with food, without it is a tiny bit too much on the oaky, woody side on the finish. Still a great wine in its early prime. Still benefits from a good amount of air. Should be good for another 5-10 years. Towards the end of second night moved to 95, so I assume a small upside.

December 28, 2019 - This wine is now in a perfect spot to consume. The fruit is fresh and perfectly ripe. The balance in this very soft wine is perfect. Smoke, red fruits, a touch of black fruits, chocolate and some grilled impressions. This very refined and precise wine possesses a very long middle part.

December 27, 2019 - Cassis and ripe blackberries. Some notes of chocolate, cigar box and forest floor. Smooth tannins produce a great mouthfeel and a silky finish. A bit of a modern take, but unmistakably Bordeaux. Perfect with ribeye.

(Chateau Pontet-Canet Pauillac) Heatwave vintage. Rather glossy hue. Not a roasted style on the nose, dense and creamy confit style. Violets. Very well-styled fruit, rich but not overly sweet, fat or roasted, clean and ripe but remarkably atypical and pure for the vintage. Certainly a rich and creamy style on the palate though, dense and concentrated, and there is a firm pervasive style of deep, chewy, ripe but coating tannins, this aspect being very typical of the vintage. Tesseron says you can't spot this as a 2003 in a blind tasting, as it has good freshness; he is right on this point, but the structure of the wine is very typical. There is a long finish dominated by tannin. The acidity is rather muted but it is there. A good wine. Totally different

(Chateau Pontet-Canet Pauillac) Dark, super-macerated, super-ripe fruit. A fat, sexy style on entry, with a creamy texture carrying a raft of exotic, spiced and peppered fruit. Beneath it all there's a big, brawny structure, although rather soft acidity, engendering a fat, opulent finish. The tannins coat the mouth here. I think there is sufficient substance to carry these tannins. Very good.
