    February 1, 2023 - Much better than the bottle I had 5 weeks ago (thanks for the comments, that "forced" me to open another one :-)
    Gave it 3 hours of air...Precise, Pauillac-typical nose of black berries, pencil shavings, cedar, tobacco. Nice freshness on the nose and palate. Good mix of primary and tertiary aromas. 92 pts. so far....Had to keep up about 1/3 in the bottle for 5 days (vacuumized) and it was singing on day 6. Much more tension and pressure on the palate, super perfumed nose. 94 pts.....Conclusion for me: needs a lot of air, could be a long runner in view of the hot vintage - but there seems to be certainly some bottle variation! Big difference between my 2 tested bottles. For those who are interested: Pape Clement 2003, which I had a few days ago, was a cut above (96) for me right now!

    January 15, 2023 - On opening great nose of weedy black fruits. Tannins are still high and a little lower than I would like.
    After 4 hours a little more harmonious. No real secondary flavors. Still quite primary. I think this has a long life ahead of it. Great wine that needs a lot of air before consumption at this point.

    January 9, 2023 - Wow! This was a surprise - it is really good. Not as full bodied as I expected given the vintage and the tendency for some chateau to overproduce in the early 2000's. It has a lovely full weight in the mouth without being overdone, this is classic Bordeaux and has the elegance you would expect of Bordeaux. Dark fruits with some tertiary leather, good acidity. Real depth, length and complexity. Drinking now but really only beginning to drink well. Will last for many years. The 1996 Pontet is gorgeous and I think this will turn out to be just as good and maybe better.

    January 4, 2023 - A bit more tannic than I remembered. Needed a solid two-hours of air to really open up, and honestly could have used more. Overall, delicious and a great accompaniment to steak dinner. The acidic is starting to creep a little high for my personal preference as a stand alone drinker, but again, great with dinner.
