October 18, 2021 - My one and only bottle of this which I have held to celebrate our son's HS graduation last year. Paired wonderfully with grilled ribeyes and vegetables. Last glass was even better on day 2.

I think HENDMO's 10/2021 note summed it up very nicely. Though I would add I decanted for 2 hours prior to serving.

"Deep concentrated ruby colour, which is Rich nose of cassis, slightly roasted plums, licorice, a hint of graphite and vanilla. Palate is well balanced with rich dark fruits, a deep seam of graphite and some gentle spices. Finish is subtle at first, but builds nicely into a lovely, classy, and mineral infused finish, framed by slightly dusty but well integrated tannins."

October 16, 2021 - I first tried this vintage in 2009 and have drunk it regularly ever since. At first it was fruit forward and delicious but recently it has been displaying the characteristics of the hot vintage more and its heat and alcohol is still to calm down. Personally in time I think it will come round and become a fantastic wine but this will require patience. EDIT I left half the bottle vacuumed for the next night and I felt it improved significantly with the heat blowing off reassuring me it has a long life ahead.

October 10, 2021 - From Coravin, with just 1/2 hr in the glass to open up a bit.

Deep concentrated ruby colour, which looks much younger than the 2003 Malescot by comparison (which is also excellent BTW, just more floral and mature). Rich nose of cassis, slightly roasted plums, licorice, a hint of graphite and vanilla. Palate is well balanced with rich dark fruits, a deep seam of graphite and some gentle spices. Finish is subtle at first, but builds nicely into a lovely, classy, and mineral infused finish, framed by slightly dusty but well integrated tannins.

Clearly a left bank in terms of style, and on the younger side but ready to drink. Very nice indeed.

October 6, 2021 - This is my second unpleasant meeting with this wine in a year or so....I cant recall this wine ever feeling so tired. I wonder if this is an issue from a particular case, or the evolution of the wine itself. Tonight, it's a far cry from Pauillac and more along the lines of a St. Emilion from a modestly rated year. This is troublesome....Hmmm....

October 2, 2021 - Decanted for a good hour and needed. Haven’t had this for 8 years ( Papies 92) and was a great to cross paths with it once again now almost 20 years old. The 2003 vintage is present in the soft singe on the fruit but this is a great 2003 and made with a soft hand and thus maintains an elegance and freshness usually lacking from often burnt 2003s. Very good 92.

For the lovers of the what causes high alcohol in modern wines , ie is it Global Warming or excessive Fruit selection this wine tips the scales to the fruit selection as this is 12.9% alc in a year that was probably the hottest ever in Bordeaux.
