November 10, 2023 - Too much time has passed since drinking this to give it a fair rating or tasting note. I will simply say that we drank it after a few hours in the decanter. We drank it with a 2014 La Sirena Napa Cab that had also been decanted for around 3 hours. Of the 4 wine lovers that night, two preferred the Anakota, and two preferred the La Sirena, but it was close and all four of us really liked both wines.

April 22, 2022 - Pnp'd into a decanter 3+ hours before taking over to HMCs for dinner. Immediate and striking nose of fresh matchstick. It slowly gives way over the first 20 minutes. The wine is dark garnet in the glass with a ruby red ring fading into a slightly clear meniscus at glass edge. As the matchstick fades a red raspberry/lavender nose rises. Maybe a hint of camphor or eucalyptus there also. First sips.....20-30 mins open. Soft mouth feel on entry, decidedly red fruit, like a slightly tart red Rainier cherry mixed with sweeter black cherry. Slightly astringent tannins, but I don't feel this will need the full 3 hour decant as it stands right now. Will check back in 1 hour.

1 hour in: Nose is decidedly Cali cab now.......a hint of black dirt to go with the mushroom/graphite combo up front. Fruit is darker red/black, no longer tart and settling in nicely.....a hint of anise on the end of the palate. Perfectly balanced acidity. I think this is going back into the bottle under cork in the cellar for the next two hours til dinner.

Enjoyed over another 2+ hours with and after dinner. This really calmed down into a semi Bdx, semi Sonoma type of wine. Stayed more red fruited and very well integrated/resolved. Overall, this one seemed to lack a little zip or life or energy. Not sure this gets any better from here, unless you want to hold another 10 years and get to that really resolved aged Bdx type of bottle, with totally tertiary characteristics and if you like that, you may score it higher, then.

March 31, 2022 - Wow...my first Anakota Cab and what a powerhouse. Expressive, rich and fruit forward...there is big blackberry fruit with some of my favorite notes of mocha, dark chocolate, cassis and dark cherries with hints of tobacco and graphite on the finish. Wonderfully complex with strong active tannins that need a 90 minute decant to settle down. This is a terrific Cab with some Bordeaux roots in it.

August 13, 2021 - Drank after 25 minutes in open bottle. Nice full nose with heavy oak accents. On first few sips the oak was too predominant and wine was unbalanced. By second glass, after a good swirling, the oak had dissipated and the wine was much more harmonious. Plenty of good fruit left, this still has lots of time for drinking. Not very tannic. No sediment. If I drink this again within the next year or two I think I'd give it a half-hour decant before drinking.
