October 11, 2019 - Seemed closed compared to the 2014 i recently enjoyed. Opened for two hours of slow-ox but wasn't enough.
May 4, 2019 - This has much more elegance and a higher acidity to it than what you’d expect from a Saxum. Great balance, length and depth. But not as opulent as other Saxums.
Drink this at room temperature and with enough air, better with at least 5 more years
December 26, 2018 - 2hr decant. Not bold like other Saxums I’ve had. More fruit driven
December 14, 2018 - This clear and very dee red wine was the last wine of a 4 bottle lunch with a group of gentlemen. The wine had a bouquet of ripe cherries, some pepper and quite a bit of leather. In the glass were these cherries and leather, mixed with a hint of bacon and a slight bit of petrol which gave the wine a slight sour aftertaste. Strong on the acidity and the tannins with a good finish. This bottle was good but slightly "disorganized".
April 7, 2018 - Most of the more recent notes here reflect my experience. Lots of red fruit, with prominent notes of red cherries, raspberries, some spice box and earthy elements. Medium bodied, this is definitely not as serous a wine as many of the other Saxum's. Nice lithe delivery of delicate red fruit, a touch of sweetness, well balanced and fairly polished. Tannins are totally integrated. Finishes with a pleasant 20 sec finish. This is ready to drink now.
February 14, 2018 - Poured into a decanter - note after 90 minutes. Cherries and red licorice on the nose. Palate dominated by red fruit. Less black and blue fruit than I usually find on Saxum. This is well balanced and approachable now.
January 19, 2018 - Classic Saxum beauty!
December 23, 2017 - Drinking nicely, well balanced and elegant. Not a big big wine like the Bone Rock or Broken Stones.
December 22, 2017 - Pop and pour, which wasn't fair to the wine at all. So it goes. In the glass, dark maroon-red, but not entirely opaque, unlike most Saxum's we've enjoyed up to this point. On the nose, kirsch and a tiny, tiny bit of alcohol. On the palate, could easily pass for a young CdP - there is fruit here, to be sure, but it is paired with a note somewhere between salinity and beef blood. Also of note - a very smooth texture, even more so than other Saxum bottlings - silky, but not syrupy. Tannins are not particularly noticeable on the finish.
Completely approachable now, but still comes across very young. Hard to know where this is headed, given the apparent absence of tannins. This will be interesting to follow over time.
November 23, 2017 - Fabulous nose that evolved from dark fruit to leather. Even after a several hour decant I enjoyed the first few sips after opening better.
