This is Swanson's top Cabernet, which includes a splash of Merlot. As always, it's rich, tannic and dry, and it possesses a deep core of blackberry and black currant flavors. It seems more tannic and sharp than in previous vintages, which suggests its ageability. Try holding it until 2015.
2009 Vintage
Tasted: Jan 2013
(2013) This has 7% Merlot in the blend but no Petit Verdot which there is in some years. All French oak, 60% of which is new. Fabulous fragrance, with such beautiful fruit and a roundness, but there's a pristine black cherry juiciness as well as copious bittersweet notes of cocoa. It's a big wine on the palate, but with real suppleness and smooth cocoa dusted dry tannins, a wonderfully juicy squirt of acidity balancing too.
