Community Tasting Notes 2

July 26, 2008 - I expected this to be over the hill because I should have drunk it 2 years ago. However, it was quite nice. A lot of tropical fruit, with papaya, pineapple, guava and a bit of banana. There was a background secondary sweetish flavor that was almost like sherry, but it was not maderized and I can't put my finger on it. A bit of minerality but no grassy weedyness like you get in a lot of NZ whites. Color is light. Mouth feel is smooth and above average, neither sharp nor creamy. The winemaker, Larry McKenna, autographed this for me at Zachy's, probably 3 years ago. Under his signature, he signed "Pete Rose." Why? I have no recollection.

July 11, 2008 - Surprisingly at this age, the color is an average pale yellow. Light nose of honeysuckle, hazelnut, tropical fruits, oak. Palate is very chard-like with a little added minerality. Mango and hazelnut linger through finish but overall, I'd like a little better balance with the alcohol. (5+11+14+6) = 86
