  December 27, 2022 - This wine is unreal - among the longest finishes I've ever had of any wine - big fruit, great structure, tannins in tact as well but very smooth - slow ox for 4 hours - 2 hour decant and it evolved big time over this period. For sure this wine can hold for even longer but wow, for a special event, like Christmas Dinner - we opened it.

  November 10, 2022 - Wine opened up after decanting in 30 minutes. Nose of cigar box and sweet tobacco with hints of dark fruit. Taste was full of dark fruit, dark plum and blackberry. Had a layered finish of plum jam to nice acidic balance with soft tannins leaving a long beautiful fruit finish. A fantastic Cab and with my Rib Eye steak with balsamic glaze was a perfect match.

  July 2, 2022 - My good friend Michael and his wife were coming out to the big steak and seafood night at my club. It was also his ##th birthday and he is the person who got me into wine so I decided to open a couple of nice bottles. This bottle I opened and slow ox'd for three hours and then we put the cork back in and headed to the club where it was slowly consumed over the next two hours. The nose was berries and hints of chocolate. The palate is dark berries, figs, tobacco and hints of mocha. The finish is long. I thought it was the better of the two wines, the other being a 2009 Spottswood which Michael preferred. I just love Backus and it was almost a year since I last tried a bottle. Happy I have a bunch left.

  June 8, 2022 - 14.8% abv. A blend of 93% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Malbec and Petit Verdot. Inky dark fruit. Full bodied and chewy. Not overly acidic. Great on all three nights.
