November 11, 2021 - Pretty, somewhat lush, quite sweet. Smooth and easy to drink. Nice high notes. Very nice.

July 2, 2021 - Thick and viscous with jammy, almost sweet baked berry notes with cracked pepper and cola in the finish. I’ve begun to think “drink Turleys young” and I feel this night have been better before the baked notes became so prominent.

June 3, 2021 - Full on blackberry bush. Black fruit, plums, and pepper.

February 22, 2021 - Long ago when I used to drink a lot more zinfandel, I always enjoyed Ridge's Paso Robles zins such as Dusi, but the older me remembers these as being fruit bombs that only a younger more foolish me would enjoy. It is this largely flawed preconception, along with the memory that Turley purchased this vineyard from an unremarkable producer, that prevented me from buying much of this bottling. I have accumulated about half a case over the years, spread over three vintages, but until today, I had pulled only a single cork. Recently, I read a Turley thread on Wineberserkers that talked about favorite vineyards. Many of my own favorites were listed (Dragon, Rattlesnake Ridge, Ueberroth) but Pesenti kept coming up as well. So I decided to dig one out of the cellar.

Oh my. This is, pretty much everything I look for in a zin. Black pepper, spice, scorched earth, brambly black fruits, soaring aromatics. It's like a Howell Mountain zin on steroids (in a good way) and that unmistakeable Paso Robles dustinees. Drinking very well at 8+ years of age, showing little heat and no signs of fatigue. There is juicy acidity that hits you early, and a lingering blackberry and spice finish, unfettered by tannins. The best zin I've had in a while.
