December 15, 2023 - Not rated. Kind of sucked. Only bottle of Marcassin I’ve ever had I didn’t love. Unsure if it was a bottle condition issue (stored perfectly since release) or just 2011 was an off vintage for Sonoma Pinot too. Weirdly earthy. Kind of flat. Funk blew off a little bit but transitioned back into being weirdly acidic. Probably won’t buy another 2011 until shown otherwise

November 18, 2023 - Similar tasting notes from previous bottles but tastes more advanced in age. Will drink my remaining bottles in the near term.

May 31, 2023 - It is a good Pinot, but not near its reputation. A little light in color and sweet raspberry with a touch of spice that lacked the structure of other high end Pinots.

May 5, 2023 - Somewhat transparent murky cherry color, strong nose with very ripe fruit and perhaps a hint of strawberry, medium body, some fruit on the finish and also some acidity present

September 5, 2022 - Popped and poured; left some of the wine in the bottle, refrigerated, and finished the following day. This is a translucent red wine that is getting lighter at the rim. On the nose, I get concentrated raspberry, strawberry, and wood spice. There were a few moments when I got a whiff of something that struck me as rotten fruit. In the mouth, this is a potent and rich Pinot, folding into a finish marked by sweet small red berries and some slight syrup (or “Cherry Coke”) aspects. Overall, this is clearly a California Pinot and one near the top of the class. It is generally well done, although I was put off by the occasional intruding hint of rot (I am not sure if this is a function of the vintage, was amplified by the glass – the Zalto Burg stem – that I was using, or has some other explanation). My score reflects the totality of the experience and would be a couple points higher absent the odd creeping odor. I would not buy again at the price point for this experience. 91.5 points.

May 13, 2022 - Beet, rhubarb, cherries, and gamy aromatics. Soft forward wine. Light to medium-bodied. Mature, ripe fruit and smooth character. Slightly hot finish.

February 22, 2022 - This is a very well-made wine; nice dark berry pinot fruit, black cherry cola, black cherry cough syrup, baking spices, pie crust; nice mouthfeel, alc. is in check, a good wine for sure with good structure and some elegance. I'd just prefer a nice Burgundy with more character and finesse at this price point. Yamashiro w/ Yarom and gang.
