    January 25, 2015 - sample from a friend, 27 years old for K&L

Nose: Oh, here's a classic nose. Grape jam, figs, pruneau, compote, all in a simmering pot with cinnamon, oak spice, and light molasses. Freshly shaved graphite, and with more time the oak tannins produce hints of orange zest and slightly sour lemon.

Palate: Hm, a little inscrutable at first. Dense, though the alcohol is just a toe out of step. Blackberries, pruneau, and bitter dried fig rind. Pinch of pepper. It's somewhat astringent and drying, while also yielding a dose of rancio.

Finish: Medium length on dry graphite, grapes, and plum. More dryness. It's all there and fairly well measured. The initial burst of alcohol and dryness sets it back even while providing good structure. A very typical and very well made armagnac. Deduct a few points if you're sensitive to heavily astringent oak.
