    June 12, 2023 - Deep garnet.
Still drinking well with a bit more tertiary ( mushroom, figs, prunes) on the palate.
Probably needs drinking up over the next 2/3 years but a good value purchase.
    Six to go….

April 22, 2023 - Based on others' recent reviews, I open this bottle at 11am to drink with pulled pork sandwiches for dinner. It's now 3pm, and the wine is ready to drink, and probably was ready some time ago. Nice black pepper aromas to complement the raspberries and plums. Maybe a little raw, red meat, too. Red fruit, garrigue, tar, maraschino cherries (not in a negative way), and vanillin (from the oak) on the palate. Integrated acidity and tannins. Very nice. Should be great with dinner.

February 13, 2023 - This is simply getting better and better with age. Absolutely at a peak of maturity, even though this is 50% Syrah, in personality, this feels like the the essence of Grenache, and with decanting and time in the glass, the multiple layers of nuance point to stunning complexity. Soft, powdery tannins add framing to this pure wine. At a peak, but I believe this has more to give in the near to mid term, say 3-5 years..

January 22, 2023 - Elegant but full syrah/grenache which is still very fruity. Needed at least 24 hours aeration, so do decant early and warm up. Plenty of spice and black pepper with voluptuous fruit and, as in my experience with all Chapoutier wines, firm but fine tannins. It's a lovely bottle with rich sausages...

November 18, 2022 - I was expecting a tannic monster after reading the reviews on here but passage of time seems to have avoided that, although there is clearly still a tannic backbone. There is also plenty of dark red plummy, blackberry fruit, so get stuck in and enjoy. But don’t over-think. This is a fun good wine at a good price, not a great one….

Time for what has become an early-in-the-year tradition: an offer of Chapoutier’s exquisite entry-level red from Bila-Haut, in the southwest France value garden of Roussillon.Originally offered in January 2015 at 31.99/27.99 TPU, we reloaded last year at closeout pricing; hence the reduced TPU. We’re down to just a handful of cases, so it’s last-call time for this lovely bottle. Occultum Lapidem is essentially a reserve wine, coming from Chapoutier’s best Roussillon vineyards, on gneiss and schist and Kimmeridgian limestone. The blend is about 50% Syrah, 30% Grenache, and 20% Carignan. Wine Advocate: Copyrighted material withheld.

    Full Pull Price Drop, 10/13/2017

(Bila-Haut (Chapoutier) Occultum Lapidem) Hello friends. One of the best values we offered in 2015 (and a frequent reorder target throughout that year) was recently offered to us on closeout. The deal was: we purchase the remaining parcel available in western Washington, and in exchange, we get to offer a price even better than our original 31.99/27.99 TPU:Originally offered in January 2015 at 31.99/27.99 TPU, we reloaded last year at closeout pricing; hence the reduced TPU.
