July 30, 2016 - Rusty bronze color. Very Islay nose of peat, toasted marshmallow, Cuban tobacco, and campfire. The palate is rather less overtly smoky, showing flavors of bittersweet chocolate and cardamom; in contrast to the nose, this finishes quite sweet, with the fragrant flavor of dried flowers. This has an intensity, especially the smokier flavors, to the point of being somewhat acrid at the margins. Some intriguing nuances, but a bit rough and unpolished.

April 8, 2014 - Tasted at a scotch event hosted by Robin Nance of Morrison Bowmore Distillers at Lukas Liquor, Kansas City, MO on 4/7/14. On the nose, iodine was the most potent note. On the palate, vanilla, maple syrup, honey, and white chocolate. Very smooth with a glycerol texture. A solid Islay single malt scotch. -89 points-

October 13, 2011 - (40%) Rich honey amber in the glass, a soft minty nose with blue peat smoke and a hint of listerine. Light honey notes continue upon tasting, with some green grassyness and glycerol nuttiness (toasted almonds?). Long, warm and sweet finish with appreciable length, with a generous dusting of dark cocoa. A straightfoward drop, not helped with water.

July 2, 2010 - What a crazy scotch -- the finish is this somewhat disorganized blend of peat notes, ocean sea and saline, and then the barell finish (which I believe is sherry). Not harmonious at all.

June 30, 2010 - This is my go-to islay. It can't be beat for the price. It is beautifully smokey and smooth. It has a bit more sweetness than most other islays I find. It pairs wonderfully with a Cuban or Nicaraguan cigar.
