Community Tasting Notes 5

November 8, 2020 - About 5 years since my last note. This has evolved nicely.
A field blend comprised of 45% Marsanne, 33% Roussanne, 11% Viognier, 9% Picpoul and 2% Grenache Blanc, co-fermented in 100% new French oak. Fermentation on the lees with stirring one a week until bottling.
Deep gold color in the glass.
Aromas show the maturity of this Chateauneuf-du-Pape blanc blanc styled white with notes of dried mango, dried pineapple, quince paste, preserved lemons and kumquat that blend in notes of dried flowers, chamomile, fall leaves, verbena, French oak, roasted nuts, butterscotch and hints of chalk and river stone.
The palate shows the more oxidative notes of oak, roasted nuts and dried flowers upfront and are followed by dried fruits, butterscotch, chalk, chamomile, preserved lemon and hints of rock and kumquat through the lingering finish. Acidity remains medium-plus. Well made and drinking well still.

August 29, 2020 - OK bottle, doesn't really taste 8 years old. Preserved lemon and dried flowers, but still some primary notes. Not a lot of acid, comes off a bit flabby. Happy to have held a bottle this long.

August 14, 2018 - See previous note. Very similar. Lots of oak, ripe fruit, would benefit from more acid. Vineyard labeled but probably not the best expression of vineyard/place.

    November 23, 2016 - Ripe, creamy, oaky.
Lots of stone fruit, melon, tropical fruit, cooked citrus, creamy lees, butter, ginger.
Very nice, could probably do with some more acidity.

May 4, 2015 - An amazing field blend comprised of 45% Marsanne, 33% Roussanne, 11% Viognier, 9% Picpoul and 2% Grenache Blanc, co-fermented in 100% new French oak. Fermentation on the lees with stirring one a week until bottling.
Aromas are reminiscent of a Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc. Stone fruits of peaches and apricots mix with honeydew, butternut squash, white flowers, golden fig with lighter ancillary scents of mineral, lemongrass, hay and leaf tobacco.
On the palate, rich and balanced while completely New World, this also shows Old World characteristics. Acidity is medium-plus and juicy. Flavors of the stone fruits, apricots and peaches, white flowers, papaya, mineral, with a hint of nuttiness. Long through the juicy intense finish.

Overall completely balanced and completely beautiful.
