March 30, 2024 - Pronounced nose intensity with notes of mushroom, red fruits, truffle, candied plum. Medium+ acidity and high tannin.

March 3, 2024 - This is just such a beautiful wine....I have had it more than 10 times over the past 6 years and it always performs but this bottle seems to have density and structure right now to allow for some longer ageing than I typically prefer for Cappellano. Drinking so well now but will improve.

January 14, 2024 - 2010 Barolo Tasting; 1/14/2024-1/15/2024: The ‘10 Rupestris is a mind blowing young wine. In a horizontal of 8 top wines from 2010, the Rupestris was my #2 behind the Monfortino. Like the Monfortino, it perfectly blended a core of sweet, primary fruit with intriguing savory characteristics.

When initially opened, the wine almost seemed a bit suspect, with an intense note of leather coming out of the bottle. The wines were opened at 1:00 in the afternoon and then double decanted, and we tasted through the lineup around 5:00 and drank over dinner. With more air, the Rupestris showed much more primary fruit. The nose was intensely perfumed, with sweet red cherry fruit, leather, iron /blood, and red florals, with a hard candy like sweetness to the red fruit. The combination of that sweet red fruit with the savory leather and blood notes made the wine really intriguing.

On the palate, the Rupestris was medium in body and super finessed, with silky tannins that are well on their way to integrating. Again, there is this mix of super sweet fruit and almost rustic, but in a good way, notes of blood and leather. And while the flavor profile leans a bit rustic in a way, the texture of the wine is world class. Compared to the Monfortino, the Rupestris shows less density of fruit, leaning a bit more savory which probably means it will lose its fruit faster than the Monfortino. It is also simply a less dense wine, which makes it a bit more approachable now but also probably will give the Monfortino an edge in decades.

January 6, 2024 - Classic in profile with tannic grip and bright acidity packaging cherry, pine needle, and truffle. Product of the fine vintage. Very good indeed.

February 5, 2023 - Consistent (including the mint!) but a bit more open than the last bottle. More aromatic charm, albeit still undoubtedly a long way from its peak.

February 3, 2023 - Cappellano Vertical Clay, Harlem

Opened at the beginning of dinner and drunk over several hours.

A brooding closed, black hole of a nose at first. Tar, iron, black licorice, and just hints of dark nebbiolo fruits. Still firmly closed on the nose and palate. After several hours, this started to hint at some fruit and florals. Hold. Do not drink now. There seems to be terrific substance hidden behind the wall, but it is too closed for me to really get a read on it. Bury this for at least a decade, preferably more.

November 14, 2022 - Extremely backward with a short stunted finish for now - needs at least another 5+ years to reveal much of the promise and may merit an upside to this score at that time - hold

    October 23, 2022 - Cappellano Barolo Pie Rupestris 2010.
    Får litt "naturvin" vibber her.
Den har ikke samme appellen som de to foregående.
Det sagt er det en flott Barolo.
Litt mer kanter og rusk, men frukten er skikkelig bra.
    Lang stram finish. 92p

May 22, 2022 - Brooding tar and dark fruit. Black cherry. Some attractive mint freshness.
Rich and full palate, again very dark fruit with some cherry.
Huge structure but very well-buffered by rich fruit.
This is very masculine and a bit of a monster at the moment but well-balanced and with great promise.
