November 14, 2019 - HDH annual Bordeaux tasting: Domaines Barons de Rothschild (Chicago, IL): I think in isolation, this may well be a very fine wine, but in context with some greater vintages, the quality difference is pretty stark. This shows much more anonymous than the other wines; it's a brash, ripe wine, with a very sweet black fruit element on the nose. Almost like port, sans all the extra alcohol. On the palate, this lacks the acidity that gives these wines elegance and trades that necessary acidity for tannins that are coarse and grainy. To be fair, I'm not picking up roasted/heat elements on this wine, but I think the hard tannins detract quite a bit here. Nowhere as good as the mainstream wine media make this wine out to be.

November 7, 2019 - Drinkable but tight. Quite primary.

August 16, 2019 - From 375, decanted shortly before drinking with picnic on the lawn at Tanglewood. Drinking well now from 375, though clear upside, especially on the nose. No roasted notes whatsoever. Elegant.

July 6, 2019 - KC/AC dinner 30 minute decant followed by a taste at pour and then another hour in glass. Fantastic wine that evolved in glass. Initial pour aromas of animal and leather with earth- complemented with taste of same plus berries (one appreciated this state more than the rest). After the hour in glass an amazing metamorphosis took place rounding out that well integrated tannins blowing off what I usually contribute to some Syrah of the animal aromas and leather, berries, cedar with tobacco that had a wonderful silky but noticeable (good way) tannin backdrop encapsulating the long finish. Wonderful wine, pleasure to have tasted! Highly recommended if given the chance. This is right in my Bordeaux wheelhouse (age/profile/mix of primary (departing but still there, smack dap in middle of secondary and beginning of tertiary).

May 25, 2019 - Not getting Lafite typicity aka pencil shavings but drinking well. Dense and balanced.

(Château Lafite Rothschild) Big mocha, espresso, tobacco nose; tasty, tart black fruit, roasted plum, espresso; long finish. Fun to drink, but more like a 2000 Pavie than a classic Lafite for me.
